News UNAIR Postgraduate School, 12 July 2021 – Postgraduate School of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) through its human resource development agency, namely the Executive Learning Hub (ELH) held training for PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of PT PLN. This session comes with the topic, Decision Analysis. Present as the main speaker, Yetty Dwi Lestari, from the Faculty of Economics & Business (FEB) UNAIR. This session was held on Monday, July 12, 2021.
Yetty stated that a process is needed in analyzing decision-making. This is because decision-making means creating responsibility for a company to us, especially if the decisions we as a leader turn out to be bad. Behind the success of a manager, there must be ups and downs in the process of developing decision analysis.
Yetty also mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia forced companies to make decisions quickly. This is because the economic recession and the declining purchasing power of the people have drastically reduced the company’s profits. Many companies are experiencing severe economic pressure, where leaders are forced to make decisions in times of crisis even though they are not ready with plans. However, this does not mean that decision-making is based solely on leadership intuition or luck.
Yetty emphasized the use of valid data in decision-making to avoid major risks in the pandemic era. Leaders need to collect as much data as possible regarding the problems that will be faced with decision-making. He argued that data is not always in a formal form such as financial reports, but can also be in the form of opinions from both consumers and workers, in addition, synchronized data between departments within the company is very important so that the data that will be used for decision making is valid and does not direct decisions on chaos.
Decision-making should be based on a factual approach, not just intuition. In addition, decision-making based on data analysis can make the company’s resilience stronger than based on feelings and emotions. “That’s how a business can maintain its dominant position in the market during the pandemic,” said Yetty.
