Millennials and Competitiveness

Airlangga Forum Podcast, 12 Mar 2021 – The covid-19 pandemic is a long-standing human disaster that is detrimental to the entire world economy. To overcome this pandemic, cooperation is needed involving various layers and elements of society. Millennials are one of the most important layers of society to help address and minimize the spread of covid-19. Therefore, The Graduate School of Airlangga University held a discussion forum themed “Millennials and Competitiveness”. This discussion forum was filled by several speakers such as Dimas Oky Nugroho, S.IP, M.Phil, Ph.D (Coordinator of The Association of State Cadres), Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco (Director of The Graduate School of Airlangga University).

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), there are 64 million young people (16-30 years old) who fall into the category of productive age and become economic drivers and boosters of democracy. In this case, Mr. Dimas Oky Nugroho argues that the number of labor force every year is increasing but still consistent, but in this pandemic the number of unemployed is also increasing to reach the number of nine million people. In this era of industrial revolution, flexible work became a job for creative people who were ultimately filled by millennials. The fourth industrial revolution is a new technology that combines the physical, digital, and biological worlds, which can have an impact on all disciplines, countries, and industries.

On the other hand, according to Dimas Oky Nugroho, we need capacity, integrity, and loyalty. In this case, the campus must be combined in this third collaboration because the campus is the vanguard in creating young people who will later become leaders and part of the existing government. Then the campus must be at the forefront of building the nation, not only its vision and mission, but also in its actors.

Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco said that the campus is the largest investment for a country, especially in cadreization. By collaborating with the campus to create a sartup to improve the economy and industry that can later produce creative classes and creative jobs.
