Airlangga Forum Podcast: Soft Launching Non-Degree Program

According to the data from Global Competition Report published by World Economic Forum in 2019, the income per capita of Indonesia was in the 52th World Rank which was in the 45th World Rank before. The highest rank of income per capita is from Singapore, meanwhile the neighboring countries, Malaysia is in the 27th World Rank and Thailand is in 40th World Rank. The highest income per capita of Indonesia is recorded in 34th World Rank in 2014 – 2015. This is important to be a government performance benchmark as there is a high correlation between the competitiveness rank between countries and the income per capita they have. The position of the rank is exactly not a permanent rank. If Indonesia cannot develop the skills, then what is needed and targeted by Indonesia to be a developed country in 100th Indonesian Independence year can be difficult to reach.

World Economic Forum has projected that in 5 (five) years ahead in the future, half of human work will be replaced by machines. This has been shown in the date from 2018 that 29% of human work has been replaced by machines. Furthermore, in 2022 it is predicted that around 75 million workers will be replaced by machines. Meanwhile, at the same time, there will be around 132 million new jobs offered by industries in which all of those need certain skills. This encourages World Economic Forum to make an innovation called ‘Reskilling Revolution’ that will be held in the early 2020 to make sure that everyone in the world gets the education and trainings to increase the competitiveness of human resource. Therefore, on Tuesday (26/1), Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga through Airlangga Forum 24th edition held a discussion forum to discuss about “Soft Launching Non-Degree Program” and invited two speakers, Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco (the Director of Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga) and Tuwanku Aria Auliandri, S.E., M.Sc. (the manager of Executive Learning Hubs Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga), and also this program was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Suparto Wijoyo (the Vice Director III of Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga).

This forum was held to discuss about 2 (two) kinds of program of Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga such as Degree Program and Non-Degree Program in order to increase the competitiveness of human resource in Indonesia. These two programs are expected to give positive impacts in supporting the first priority program of Indonesia Maju Cabinet in accordance with the mandate from the President of Republic of Indonesia. In Degree Program, there are 7 (seven) study programs such as 6 (six) master programs (Forensic Science, Immunology, Police Science, Disaster Management, Human Resource Development, and Law Science and Development) and 1 (one) doctoral program (Human Resource Development), also there are 7 (seven) new study programs which will be facilitated by Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga. Other than Degree Program, there is also a Non-Degree Program which is expected to give variety of knowledge suitable with the needs of stakeholders. In Non-Degree Program, there is an Executive Learning Hubs model which can support the future needs.

The Executive Learning Hubs alone provides variety of online trainings and the learners will be guarded by professional tutors from Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga.
