Disasters can happen anytime and anywhere. Indonesia is a disaster-prone region because it is surrounded by three active tectonic plates and a row of active volcanoes that are part of the ring of fire. Hydrological conditions are also very influential to natural phenomena such as tornadoes, floods, flash floods and landslides.

The disaster needs to be managed since pre-disaster, during disaster until post-disaster so that various prevention and control efforts can run well. Master Program in Disaster Management, is a multidisciplinary study program in the field of disaster who have a profile as professionals in the field of disaster management.

Vission

  • To become a leading study program in the field of disaster management that is oriented towards the development of transformative leaders who are able to solve disaster problems and challenges at the national and international levels.

Missions

  1. Organizing professional disaster master’s education programs that produce transformative leaders in the field of disaster management
  2. Develop research in the field of disaster management for problem solving and challenges
  3. Develop community service in the field of disaster management to solve disaster problems and challenges

Purposes

  1. Produce a tranformative leader in the field of disaster management

Profiles of Future Graduates

1.Profesionals

Graduates are able to apply theories and concepts of disasters and disaster management in the management of health and social aspects in pre-disaster, during disasters and post-disasters. Graduates are expected to be able to identify problems, analyze problems and provide alternative solutions in the event of disasters.

2.Reseacher

Graduates have knowledge of research methods and statistics for disasters. The Graduates have the ability to conduct a research using appropriate statistical methods, to compile a scientific papers, then publish an article in scientific journals.

3.Managers

  • Managing a social aspects and increase community capacity in increasing resilience to disasters
  • Managing a disaster risks which include risk assessment, disaster prevention, mitigation, disaster alert, emergency and recovery
  • Managing a disasters in the early phase
  • Managing a recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction after disasters
  • Preventing and controling health problems that can potentially be a second disaster or secondary disaster
  • Designing an information systems and carry out community-based disaster risk communication and information technology

  2. Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Management (3 credits)
  3. Disaster Epidemiology (3 credits)
  4. Disaster Information Systems and Technology (3 credits)

Semester 2 – Elective Courses

  1. Legal and Institutional Aspects of Disaster Management (2 credits)
  2. Death Toll Management and Disaster Victim Identification / DVI (2 credits)
  3. Food Handling Management in Disasters (2 credits)
  4. Local Wisdom and Inclusion in Disasters (2 credits)
  5. Disaster Psychology Mitigation (2 credits)
  6. Climate Change and Disaster Adaptation (2 credits)
  7. Disaster Management Case Study Inspiration Class (2 credits)

Disaster Management Research Group is a research group that focuses on comprehensive disaster management in the pre-disaster stage, during disasters to post-disaster.
