Smart City: From Surabaya to The World, with Mayor of Surabaya

News of Sekolah Pascasarjana UNAIR, 9 Apr 2021 – Indonesia’s economic progress in the development period, as well as the application of smart cities in the city of Surabaya. However, the concept of smart city will be put together and become a national concept that will be applied in Indonesia. Therefore, Universitas Airlangga held Airlangga Forum themed “Smart City From Surabaya to the World”. Some speakers were mr. Eri Cahyadi (Mayor of Surabaya), Prof. Muhammad Nasih (Rector of Airlangga University Graduate School), Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco (Director of Airlangga University Graduate School), Dr. Norhasliza Binti Ghapa (Senior Lecture, Faculty of Law &International Relations, Sultan Zainal Abidin University, Terengganu, Malaysia), Suparto Wijoyo (Vice Director III of Airlangga University Graduate School).

In several responses on how to make Surabaya a smart city, Prof Badri Munir Sukoco expressed his opinion. According to him in making Surabaya as a smart city we must balance various layers of the community economy to improve the inclusive economy in the city of Surabaya. For example, how to increase start-ups in the health sector which was only 0.8% of the total GDP to 5% per year. Thus automatically all areas of economic balancing will move and innovate to improve the finances of a region.

On the other hand, according to Dr. Norhasliza there are some important elements in smart cities applied in Malaysia as well as our focus on the economic interests themselves that are competitive. Then we promote, and organize the program for a quality life. In the structure of the smart city itself, Malaysia has seven important elements such as smart economy, smart living, smart people, smart government, smart mobility, smart digital information, and smart infrastructure.

Several other speakers also conveyed the concept of smart city consequently. According to Mr. Ganden, smart city has an ecosystem that has three parts such as software, hardware, and also printware. The first step to go to a smart city certainly identify resources, then in terms of hardware observation of infrastructure and network should be considered, Then in terms of printware we see how an organization in order to manage a good system of government so that the public can feel the results.
