Airlangga Forum Podcast (17 Feb 2021) – Universities as producers and thought as well as a forum for the community to develop the welfare of the State through learning, community service, and real work. Therefore, The Graduate School of Airlangga University held Airlangga Education Expo with the theme “New Path to Prosperous Society”. The event was filled by several speakers such as Mr. La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti (Chairman of DPD RI), Adik Dwi Putranto (Chairman of The East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco (Director of The Graduate School of Airlangga University), Assoc. Prof Suparto Wijoyo (Deputy Director III of The Graduate School of Universtas Airlangga).

In this discussion forum, several speakers expressed their opinions regarding the important role of universities on political development in Indonesia. According to Mr. La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, we need to know that the discussion forum among students declined since a decade ago, precisely after the reform era in 1998. As a result many students are less aware of politics and even anti-politics. Whereas by studying politics we can learn about leadership and team work. The role and contribution of thinking from universities in Indonesia is indispensable for the improvement of the political system in Indonesia, both regionally and in the village though.

On the other hand, Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco argues that there needs to be creativity in advancing the welfare of the people, especially in the economic field. We can take the example of China which has made rapid progress in its economic development since the last two decades until now. In the process of developing advanced economic fields, China also embraces several universities in its region. So that it is able to produce new startups for the region and produce a significant increase in the region’s finances. Then in addition to the economy and embracing several universities, cihna also has a clear program with ten targets from each sector of their respective regions. So in recent years some regions in China ranked top in The Global Start Up Ecosystem. In addition, Mr. Adik Dwi Putranto argues that high value is not enough to meet a high career, but soft skills are also needed in the field. Therefore, the government also established a real work lecture program to hone soft skills and training in the field of work.
