News of UNAIR Postgraduate School, 1 Jun 2022 – Regionalism is where we identify a cooperation within a region. Usually we can identify it easily by geographic location. This also can be identified when those countries within that region creating cooperation in sense of depending, this depending later create an economic union or economic partnership. Even in some cases, those regions also can be divided to a regional cooperation and sub-regional cooperation. That’s regionalism.
Regionalism phenomenon is trigger by the event of Cold War, where the West and Soviet Union start to creating their own cooperation with other allied nation with them. Later, regionalism is also been triggered by economy phenomenon, where nation started to establish a policy that promote liberalization of the market and economic. These events later make the spirit of interdepending became much stronger than ever within the regionalism.
COVID-19 pandemic also makes the even contribute on this. Because the pandemics create a bigger issue within the nation, the regionalism take its role. Regionalism faces the pandemic with plenty of number policy. This policy act as a coping mechanism for the region so later it may survive the pandemic. All this later make transition period in a region became much more easier.
